When we think of farming, the image that often comes to mind is that of a solitary farmer walking the land. But farming technology has made leaps and bounds in recent years, and now “precision farming” means it is becoming more likely that a drone might be monitoring the crops than an actual human being. Many of the technological advances that we are now seeing in agriculture have come from collaborations between the industry and academia – but how do companies identify the promising innovations that keep them on the cutting edge?
Elsevier was recently able to help Syngenta, the global agribusiness and biotech giant, in this capacity by offering an exploratory analysis of agricultural R&D. Elsevier databases like Scopus, powered by natural language processing and text mining capabilities, made it possible to provide exceptional and unbiased information that will ultimately help Syngenta better position its R&D collaborative capabilities as the company endeavors to provide sustainable agricultural development worldwide.
